WHAT IS THE INTERNATIONAL DYSLEXIA ASSOCIATION?

Founded in 1949 as a nonprofit organization, The International Dyslexia Association (IDA) was established to continue Dr. Samuel T. Orton's work in the study, prevention, and treatment of the specific language ability known as dyslexia. Formerly the Orton Dyslexia Society, IDA now has 42 branches in the United States, plus four national affiliates (Brazil, the Philippines, Czech Republic, and Israel).

WHAT IS THE NEBRASKA BRANCH OF THE INTERNATIONAL DYSLEXIA ASSOCIATION (NE-IDA)?

The Nebraska Branch of IDA was founded on February 1, 1984. In keeping with the goals of the national organization, the Nebraska Branch works to enhance the public's perception and understanding of dyslexia and related language/learning abilities.

WHAT IS THE MISSION STATEMENT OF THE NEBRASKA BRANCH?

To improve educational opportunities for students with reading, writing and spelling deficits.

To promote education of teachers in research-based approaches to reading instruction.

To work with teacher education providers to require research-based training for teacher certification.

To provide information and support to parents and the public on reading problems.
